Gansu Province

Gansu, abbreviated as “Gan” or “Long”, with Lanzhou as its capital, lies in northwest China on the upper Yellow River. Shaped like a long “ruyi” scepter, it’s where the Loess, Qinghai-Tibet and Inner Mongolian plateaus meet. A key stretch of the ancient Silk Road, it boasts the Mogao Grottoes, Jiayuguan Pass and Zhangye Danxia Landform. It’s also a cradle of Chinese civilization with diverse ethnic cultures.
